One Hot Tub
Practical hot tub advice for owners, buyers and beginners.
About Dave King
I’m Dave, a hot tub owner based in Brighton, UK, and the person behind One Hot Tub. I’m not a plumber, a spa technician, or a trade professional. I’m someone who bought a hot tub, found the whole experience far more complicated than it needed to be, and ended up spending years figuring it out the hard way.

Brighton, the US, and Why You’ll See Both £ and $
I’m based on the south coast of England but travel to the United States several times a year, splitting time between the East and West Coasts. Hot tubs, chemicals, and equipment vary a fair amount between the UK and US markets, with different brands, different product names, and different price points. Where a post is written with a US context, I use dollars. Where it’s UK-focused, I use pounds. I flag this where it matters, so you always know which market I’m writing for.
How I Got Into This
A few years ago I bought my first hot tub. What I expected to be a straightforward purchase turned into weeks of conflicting advice, confusing spec sheets, and forum threads that assumed you already knew what you were doing. Once I finally had the tub installed and running properly, I realised I’d accumulated a lot of hard-won knowledge that simply wasn’t written down anywhere clearly.
That’s the gap One Hot Tub is here to fill.
What This Site Covers
One Hot Tub is focused on practical, owner-level guidance. It is not a trade publication, and it doesn’t cover commercial or industrial spa systems.
Topics you’ll find here:
- Buying advice, what to look for, what to avoid, and how to think about budget
- Water chemistry and maintenance, keeping your water clean, balanced, and safe
- Troubleshooting, common problems and how to work through them
- Tips for getting the most out of your tub, whatever the season
How I Write
Everything on this site comes from my own experience as an owner, supplemented by research I trust. I’m self-taught, and I’m upfront about that. Where something requires a qualified professional, such as an electrician, water specialist, or manufacturer support, I’ll say so clearly rather than encourage you to wing it. My aim is to give you enough context to make good decisions, not to replace expert advice when expert advice is what’s needed.
I write the same way I’d explain something to a friend who’s just bought their first tub: directly, without unnecessary jargon, and without skipping the awkward bits.
The site is monetised through affiliate links. I only reference products I’d consider using myself, and I’ll always tell you the trade-offs alongside any recommendation.
